Is Back Stiffness Stopping You Moving Comfortably?

Most people expect to feel a little stiff after a long day at work or an intense workout.

But when that stiffness lingers for days, weeks or even months, it can start affecting everything from getting out of bed in the morning to picking something up from the floor or simply turning to look over your shoulder while driving.

Many people assume they just need to stretch more.

While stretching certainly has its place, stiffness isn't always caused by muscles simply being "tight."

Over time, muscles and the connective tissue surrounding them (known as fascia) can become less mobile through repetitive movements, prolonged sitting, previous injuries or simply everyday life. As these tissues lose their ability to glide freely, movement can begin to feel restricted and uncomfortable.

One of the techniques I use to help restore movement is Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation (IASTM).

IASTM uses specially designed stainless steel tools to gently assess and treat areas of restricted soft tissue. The instruments allow me to identify areas of tension and apply precise treatment that would be difficult to achieve using hands alone.

Despite what many people expect, treatment doesn't have to be painful.

The pressure is always adapted to your comfort level and the aim isn't to cause pain—it's to encourage healthier movement within the soft tissues, helping to reduce stiffness and improve mobility.

Many clients notice they can move more freely immediately after treatment, while others experience gradual improvements over the following days as the tissues continue to adapt.

IASTM can be particularly helpful for people who experience:

✅ Back stiffness

✅ Tight shoulders and neck

✅ Reduced flexibility

✅ Muscle tightness after exercise

✅ Restricted movement following injury

✅ General aches and reduced mobility

Every assessment begins by understanding what's causing your symptoms before deciding which treatment techniques are most appropriate. In many cases, IASTM is combined with sports massage and mobility advice to achieve the best possible results.

If your back feels stiff, tight or restricted, don't just put up with it.

Book a session today and let's help you move more comfortably again.
